Comal ISD Student Wins State UIL Documentary Film Title

April 1, 2024 - Award-winning filmmaker is the latest title for Canyon High School student Maxx Cantu who won the UIL 5A documentary film category at this year’s state film festival on February 28.

Cantu was recognized for his achievement at the March 28 Comal ISD Board of Trustees meeting.

His film, titled, “The Other Sport,” gives the viewer an inside look at the sport of wrestling from the athlete’s and coach’s perspective along with a little history.

While wrestling may be considered “The Other Sport” in this documentary, it is gaining momentum in Comal ISD with 31 state qualifiers this year from four high schools including eight medalists and a 5A state champion.
